Missouri
Association of Faculty Senates
What Are the Benefits of Membership?
Membership keeps you and your institution
informed concerning governance structures in Associated Senates and allows
you to participate in shaping higher education in Missouri.
Your institution will have an active voice in
the issues affecting higher education through MAFS. You will strengthen
your own governance organization and provide better leadership training for
your members.
What is the Governance Structure?
The Executive Committee of MAFS consists of a
President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, and Past President.
Each serves a one-year term but may be re-elected. If the President is
re-elected to a subsequent term, the Past-President may continue to serve in
that capacity for another term. Officers must be present or past members of a faculty senate. Charges for the Executive
Committee include the following:
-
Establish regular working/consulting
executive committees of MAFS members and their administrators.
-
Create a model for better transactions
between senate/council executive committees of MAFS members and their
administrations.
-
Draft bylaws for the MAFS constitution.
-
Call, create agenda for, and conduct
biannual and other meetings of the Association.
-
Establish and prescribe the functions of
Standing Committees, appointing members and designating chairs to serve
for one year.
An Advisory Council consists of the Past Presidents, excluding the immediate Past President, who serves on the
Executive Committee, and one member at large. The Advisory Council is
purely an advisory body. This Council will meet with the Executive
Committee and participate in planning and discussion of all issues involving
the Missouri Association of Faculty Senates. The Advisory Council has two
charges:
In addition to the Executive Committee, MAFS
works through four other Standing Committees:
-
Committee on Governance
-
Committee on Faculty Status/Personnel
Policies
-
Committee on Academic Programs
-
Committee on External Relations
-
Designated Voters (1) and Alternates (1)
for each institution are elected by Faculty Senates/Councils and certified
by the Secretary of MAFS to serve one year terms.
